One of the best things for a photographer to find is a documentary project that spans decades and as Rilke said of a dear old habit, came and stayed and never gave notice.

In 1988 Pamela Zoline asked me if I would photograph "new music" composers gathering from around the world to present their music, privately to each other as well as in rehearsal and performance.  I thought she was joking, how could she possibly think I would want to photograph people sitting around listening to music?  Fortunately, I was mistaken and she was serious.  Twenty-five years and thirty thousand images later, I'm still documenting these gatherings of interesting, unpredictable and very creative artists.

Beyond the images in this gallery, you may visit otherminds.org to learn more, find the music and explore the visual history in my annually updated galleries.
